E - Scooter Seizure - Fulford |
North Yorkshire Police – Public Information Notice This morning, at school start time, officers seized an e‑scooter near St Oswald’s School in Fulford following reports from members of the public. Concerns had been raised about an e‑scooter rider travelling on the pavement while pedestrians were present, creating a clear risk to children and families arriving at school. Officers located the rider and the e‑scooter was seized. The rider is being dealt with for relevant offences.
We want to remind the public that privately owned e‑scooters are not legal for use on public roads, pavements, cycle lanes or any public place. To use an e‑scooter legally, a rider would need at least a provisional driving licence and a valid policy of motor insurance—requirements that cannot currently be met for privately owned e‑scooters, meaning their use in public is effectively unlawful. Our priority is the safety of the community, particularly around schools where vulnerable road users are present. If you have any information about illegal vehicle use, including cases similar to this one, please contact police. If you have concerns about road safety in your area, you can reach us via: Always dial 999 in an emergency.
